ONTD Original: These Were Mall Concerts

Having up and coming pop stars performing at malls scarcely exists today but was a true relic of 80s/90s/and a bit of 2000s yesteryears. Safiya Nygaard in her dressing like it was 1987 video lowkey gave me a frame of reference of how it was an actual thing for artists to reach out to younger audiences by being at the mall and for youth culture, especially noted in the 80's classic Tiffany's "I Think We're Alone Now" music video and the loosely parodied "Let's Go to the Mall". Maybe some of your very own favs had their humble beginnings #booking that #stagethat was right next to the escalators.

Who knows if this is a pathetic pr move or if it actually helped gain audiences or if it could gain traction if more people did it today. From stand-alone concerts to actual mini tours, here are 10 instances of musicians jamming it out in the middle of a mall. If this post inspired you to go shopping, you can catch stewie_e's list of shopping songs to further get you in the mood.

Britney Spears - Hair Zone Mall Tour (1999)

Debutney did an early promotional mall tour *WITH live vocals for her debut album sporting a Spongebob-esque ensemble school uniform moment in reference to her debut hit single "Baby One More Time" and the music video for it that featured a school theme - the debut and beginning of an array of other iconic looks, hits, and music videos by Britney.

It was a debut that gave us an insight that A Star was Born, that she was American dream since she was 17, and a part of that debut took place in a mall. The fans were already hyped for the debut of a living legend, and not many pop artists debut with such warm welcomes. #debut

Songs also included: "Sometimes", "Crazy", "Born to Make You Happy"

Tiffany - Mid Rivers Mall (2017)

The legend so famous she only goes by her first name Tiffany celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Full House-featured hit in a St. Louis mall a couple of years ago and showed the 80's girls what they shoulda did by giving this meta performance, and life imitates art.

She is surprisingly booked and busy this year as an opener for New Kids on the Block following other 80's acts who are opening for them including then-pop rival Debbie Gibson, Salt-N-Pepa, and Naughty by Nature.

Willa Ford - Nautica Girl Tour (2000)

Before "Dirrty", the bad girl of pop was Willa Ford of "I Wanna Be Bad" fame. The large blue tinted 2000's glasses, crop top, and baggy pants gave us peak Y2K aesthetics.

She also performed the song "Not Such an Innocent Girl", assuming before it was snatched by posh queen Victoria Beckham and became a top 10 hit in the UK.

David Archuleta - SM Fairview (2012)

American Idol contestant of mormon background David Archuleta performed the late 2000's hit "Crush" mostly on pitch and gave the Filipino audience their life in a Manilla mall. He continued to cater to his Filipino audience that year releasing a cover album of Filipino songs called Forevermore, exclusively released in the Phillipines.

Avril Lavigne - Toronto Mall (2004)

Pioneer of punk and Alanis Morissette of 2000s Avril Lavigne was widely well known by the time she released "My Happy Ending" and was met with a frenzy performing an acoustic set in a Canadian mall in 2004 - a definitive moment of punk mall rat culture of the 2000s. I don't know how long this mall tour was but she also performed in California during this time as well.

Songs included "He Wasn't", "My Happy Ending", "Sk8er Boi", "Don't Tell Me", "Take Me Away", "Nobody's Home", and "Complicated"

Ariana Grande - Macy's Summer Blowout (2011)

Transracial woman of pop Ariana Grande did a set of concerts with Macy's even before her first album was released. She gave us a peep at the doo-wop theme of Yours Truly but did mostly covers.

Other songs include: "Only Girl" (Rihanna cover) and a mashup of "Born This Way" and "Express Yourself" (shade but come through with the Italian pride)

Lady Gaga - IKEA Parking Lot (2008)

San Diego's 933 FM radio station pulled together a concert for charity in an IKEA parking lot (not a mall, but fits in with the retail vibe of this post) and one of the performers included now Oscar and 9x Grammy winner Lady Gaga. She danced, gyrated, and hyped the crowd to donate toys for children in need. Maybe she had some Ikea meatballs afterwards that day.

Songs included: "Beautiful Dirty Rich", "Poker Face", "Just Dance"

Nobody's Angel - Houston Mall (2000)

True 2000's kids who watched Boy Meets World re-runs, Model Behavior, and Life-Size would faintly remember this short-lived girl group Nobody's Angel and their "As Long As You Love Me" attempt semi-smash in the Disney world "I Can't Help Myself". The uploader of this video also has footage of more early 2000's pop acts including Britney's mall concert.

Dream - Macy's DKNY Music Mania (2001)

Dream of "He Loves You Not" and "This is Me" fame did a medley of their hits giving you the whitest girl group performance skills ever, with a mish mash of live singing and lipsyncing. OP just discovered that the original "This Is Me" and not the remix is actually a bop.

The girls did a nostalgic tour a few years ago called My2K Tour including a slew of forgotten acts including 98 Degrees, Ryan Cabrera and O-Town.

Other songs included: "What We Gonna Do About Us"

Debbie Gibson and Tiffany - Mall of Asia (2018)

The two rivaled (by the media) 80's queens Debbie Gibson and Tiffany showed us unity, empowerment, and harmony covering Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" in Mall of Asia (this Filipino Mall actually has its own arena and is the 14th largest mall in the world #themoreyouknow). Maybe we can hope for a Britney and Christina performance one day to announce peace and pop prosperity - don't stop believin indeed.

Have you ever witnessed a mall concert before?

What makes the movie work 20 years later?

* Julia Stiles' Kat and how she asserts her "right to be a bitch in a world that was prepared to demonize her no matter what."

* the movie treats Kat as being correct in her anger. Patrick respects her rage. Kat even confronts her own internalized misogyny in her disdain for her "girly-girl little sister".

* the movie is also not above dragging Kat a little bit. Her black English teacher Mr. Morgan dismisses some of her "rich white girl problems".

* goes in depth discussing Julia Stiles'"fully realized teenage girl" and Heath Ledger's charismatic Patrick.

* also mentions the soundtrack and of course the "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" scene

* briefly touches on the movie's handling of consent

* ends with a discussion of their favorite quotes ("That must be Nigel with the brie!" is a personal fave.)

ONTD, do you still love this movie? Do you still have the soundtrack lying around somewhere like me? What's your favorite quote?

PART ONE

Fourteen years ago, artists like Howie Day, DHT, and The Click Five were topping the charts. Many of the artists who created their major 2005 hits were never able to replicate the success. However, it's always fun to revist the past and remember what we were doing when we were listening to these songs back in the day. This list continues "part two" of our 2000's one hit wonder series. Let's take another look at the best one hit wonders of the year 2005!

ANNA NALICK - BREATHE (2 AM)

Anna Nalick's "Breathe" was first released in 2004. The song was then re-released in 2005 and peaked at no. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 4 on the Adult Contemporary in the United States, as well as no. 79 in Australia. The song found its highest national chart position in New Zealand, where it peaked at no. 37. "Breathe (2 AM)" has been certified Gold by the RIAA.

CAESARS - JERK IT OUT

Swedish rock band Caesar released "Jerk It Out" in April 2003 as the lead single from their album Love for the Streets. By 2005, the song was an international success, reaching no. 8 on the UK Single Chart and peaking at no. 70 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

DAMIEN MARLEY - WELCOME TO JAMROCK

Damien Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock" was released in March 2005 as the lead single from his album of the same name. The song peaked at no. 55 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and reach no. 13 in the United Kingdom.

CRAZY FROG - AXEL F

In 2005, Crazy Frog recorded the song, releasing it as "Axel F", though it was also known as the "Crazy Frog song". The novelty song is Crazy Frog's first and most internationally successful single. After the remix was arranged, the song was later marketed as a ringtone. The song peaked at no. 1 across most major charts around the world and peaked at no. 50 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

THE BRAVERY - AN HONEST MISTAKE

"An Honest Mistake" was released as The Bravery's debut single and the lead single from their self-titled studio album in February 2005. The song peaked at no. 6 on the Scottish Singles Chart and no. 7 on the UK Singles Chart. It eventually peaked at no. 97 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

KELLY OSBOURNE - ONE WORD

Unlike the pop/punk sound Osbourne debuted with, "One Word" was a synthpop song that showed Osbourne embracing dance music. The single sounded very reminiscent of the 1980s Visage song "Fade to Grey", which caused some controversy over copyright issues. Although Osbourne had released music before this, this single was her most successful to date when it comes to charts. The song peaked at no. 9 on the UK Singles charts and reached no. 1 on 3 seperate US dance charts with a peak at no. 21 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100.

THE AFTERS - BEAUTIFUL LOVE

"Beautiful Love" is the hit single from the debut album by Christian rock band The Afters, I Wish We All Could Win. The song was later used by MTV as the theme song to its reality show 8th and Ocean which helped the song to peak at no. 55 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

D4L - LAFFY TAFFY

"Laffy Taffy" was released in 2005 by Atlanta-based hip hop group D4L and reached no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 2006. The song's success on the charts was largely due to its enormous online sales. The song's viral dance helped it to reach its peaked. The group went on to see minimal success with their other dance-along song "Betcha Can't Do It Like Me" in 2006.

TONY YAYO - SO SEDUCTIVE

"So Seductive" became Tony Yayo's most commercially successful song, peaking at no. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100; it also remains Tony Yayo's only song to chart outside the United States, peaking in the top 30 of the Irish and United Kingdom singles charts.

SAVING JANE - GIRL NEXT DOOR

"Girl Next Door" is a single released in late 2005 by American pop rock band Saving Jane. The song peaked at no. 31 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reached no. 21 on Billboard Pop Songs.

PART ONE LIST:
Howie Day - Collide
Brooke Valentine - Girlfight
Natalie - Goin' Crazy
Teairra Mari - Make Her Feel Good
D.H.T. - Listen To Your Heart
Trillville - Some Cut
The Click Five - Just The Girl

Skins UK Actor Mitch Hewer (Maxxie) Opens Up About Struggle with OCD and Depression

For many years now people always ask me why I stopped posting, being active online or why I stopped my YouTube channel and decide to hide. The answer is something had been creeping up on me and my ability to be creative started to lack more and more every day, insecurity took the place of confidence and my self belief and self esteem slowly drifted away. Those things that had been knocking on my door were depression and anxiety. I had experienced more set backs in my personal life and more rejections from work than I could handle. The only thing I knew what to do was to hide away, so I did. I always thought I needed to be in a better place, be more successful, be further in my career, be happier, look perfect, That I should have Accomplished more by now. I would question myself with “why are you not happy like everyone else?”. I put so much pressure on myself. Over time I picked up another mental health problem, one I do not wish upon anyone, OCD. I still struggle with it every day. It would stop me leaving the house, always being late for things, hiding away from being scared of something not being “right”. These things still try to taunt me everyday and try to question why I’m here and what I’m doing. But I’ve finally decided to stop listening to those voices. Don’t get me wrong, this didn’t happen over night, wasn’t as easy as turning off a light, it took a very long time. I’d been in a dark place, the darkest. So to fast forward to right now, I am not perfect, I am far from perfect and in all honesty I don’t wanna be perfect anymore, it was exhausting. I realised there’s a reason to be here. Life is a beautiful gift, you just have to let yourself see it. Acknowledge the small things that bring you joy in each day, Don’t look for happiness because you will fail, just notice the little things that make you smile and feel alive. Then Happiness will find you. Take the bad times and understand the lesson they give you, then move forward from yesterday, live every second of the now and if tomorrow comes.. thank your god for the best present one could give. Time. It’s the only thing worth any value. So here’s to new beginnings 🙏🏼❤️ #mentalhealth

-Mitch Hewer is most famous for his role as friendly gay dancer Maxxie Oliver on the first two seasons of British mega hit teen drama Skins.
-He's been relatively inactive on social media and YouTube over the last couple of years leading his fans (me and like 57 other people) to wonder if he's okay.
-Today he posted detailing his struggles with depression, anxiety, rejection, and OCD:

The White Chicks of 'White Chicks' Reunite!

Busy Phillips brought her former White Chicks co-stars Jaime King, Brittany Daniel, and Jessica Cauffiel on her talk show Busy Tonight to reminisce about the classic comedy that will celebrate its 15th anniversary this summer. The quartet share their fond memories from the set, and even recreate their iconic dance battle, in the videos below.

A quick summary of the video, in case you don't care to watch:

-They give a shout-out to Jennifer Carpenter (remember she was in this movie too!!!), who was working in New York and couldn’t make the show.

-Jessica Cauffiel was kind of upset that director Keenan Ivory Wayans made her dye her hair red from blonde, but she trusted his vision.

-They choreographed and rehearsed the dance scene to Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" without even knowing they had the rights to it yet.

-The women all say people recognize them from White Chicks the most out of everything they done, and always sing "A Thousand Miles" to them.

-The Wayans brothers took them to actual nightclubs to practice their dance scene, which had to be changed up at the last minute because they got too good at it.

And here is the recreation of the epic dance battle scene, although Jaime has to sit it out because she injured herself while rehearsing (Sonique from season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race fills in).

Kurt Cobain died 25 years ago today: Looking back at Rolling Stone's 1994 investigative report

-At the age of 27, Cobain had been missing for six days before his body was found in the garage of his Seattle home in 1994
-Mark Lanegan, a member of Screaming Trees, said Cobain hadn't called him or anyone in his family in a week, which led him to believe something bad had happened
-He had attempted suicide in Rome in March, at which point Courtney Love told MTV, “I hate it — I can’t play with them anymore.”
-At that point, he only wanted to make music with Michael Stipe of REM. They had lots in the works, but nothing was recorded.
-An intervention was held, he went to rehab, and managed to escape - details are sketchy, but it was believed he jumped a fence when he went out for a cigarette
-On April 1, he spoke to Courtney Love for the last time. He told her she made a really good album, and "Just remember, no matter what, I love you."
-The rest is history: He was found with a self-inflicted shotgun wound and a suicide note that has been speculated about ever since.

It's a long read, but it's worth it. He meant a lot to a lot of people, and to be honest, it's hard to sum up his impact in an ONTD post. RIP

Dez Farfara, Devildriver:"There will never be another Layne, ever."

Peter Loeffler, Chevelle: He watched Layne perform at the Riviera Theatre in the early 90s. "Layne Staley’s vocal presence was a commanding force for me as I was striving to carve out my own style vocally and musically."

ONTD ORIGINAL: Pretty Wild - 10 Years Later

It's been 10 years since Pretty Wild graced our screens and provided us with iconic gifs. Aand with Alexis Neiers new podcast 'Recovering From Reality' - we are reintroduced to Andrea, Gabby, Tess and Alexis who discuss their time on the show and what was actually going on during it.

- The show was never meant to be about the Bling Ring. It was just about the girls living it up in LA. But when the cops banged down the door the first day of filming they completely changed the show to make it about the robberies. They even restaged the whole scene with fake cops etc so what was seen on the show wasn't the actual thing.

- Alexis stresses how much Andrea was not a good mother in the sense that she would involve her in all her problems (e.g. let a kid Alexis know all the money problems they were having, so it would stress Alexis out too) and how she was acting like a BFF rather than a mother, there were no boundaries etc. Notes that she's worried for the new generation of mothers who love social media and want to portray them and their daughters as best friends.

- Says her going to jail was the best thing that ever happened to her, despite the fact that the first day of rehab she was searching every floor for a way to escape and get high

- Her and Tess were completely wrecked on heroin during the filming of the show. Alexis says she started smoking oxy to block out sexual abuse from her past and it escalated, her and Tess would enable each other.

- The crew filming Pretty Wild would push the two to the absolute limit knowing how high they always were to create more and more drama. For example the iconic scene of Alexis speaking to Nancy Jo was filmed multiple times to get Alexis to a breaking point of screaming at everyone else.

- Speaking of Nancy Jo, the whole Vanity Fair article was completely conspired by the Pretty Wild film crew who told Alexis it was going to write her in a good light, when they knew the whole time it wasn't.

- They also arranged Paul Oakenfold to turn up at Gabby's party, telling Alexis that he hadn't been robbed in the Bling Ring so there shouldn't be any issues. (Alexis was only there during Paris's house robbery) and so when he turned up and yelled at her it was completely unexpected.

- The whole second half of Pretty Wild filming Tess and Alexis weren't even living at Andrea's anymore, they were in a small apartment constantly doing heroin, only showing up to film what the crew wanted them to film. Andrea tried coming to the apartment one day, Alexis opened the door with only a Subway sandwich on the bench and said to her mom "I like to bake, you cunt."

- It took her and Tess a long while to get on again because when Alexis was getting sober, Tess was still shooting up and Alexis just wanted her to get better. Says she didn't want them to become their mothers (Tess and Alexis's moms frequently smoked weed together around the kids until Tess's mom bailed and left her with Andrea).

This is most of the info I've gathered listening and watching a lot of Alexis's videos and insta posts. She's currently sober with two little girls and a husband, and is basically super against the toxic life of the LA crowd and how it ruined what should have been the fun times in her life.

- Gabby didn't have much to say, but she's married now. Andrea apologizes for not being a good mom. and treating Alexis like an adult when she was only a kid.

You can listen to Recovering from Reality on Spotify and iTunes. Also this post is dedicated to junhyosungs who asked me about this (and I was shocked that no one on ONTD had been keeping up with queen Alexis) which inspired me to make the post.

Beverly Cleary Celebrates 103rd Birthday; Her Work and Ramona Quimby Are Celebrated As Well

* children's librarian Beverly Cleary had trouble finding books with characters her young patrons would relate to. ("Where are the books about kids like us?") To correct this she wrote her first book Henry Huggins which was published in 1950 and included Henry's friends Beezus and her little sister Ramona.

* Ramona would go on to star in her own series of books.

* Cleary's books were meant to be the antidote for the sappy children's books of the 1950s.

* Ramona part of other "unruly, disruptive, tomboyish heroines of kid lit" like Laura Ingalls, Harriet the Spy, and Jo March.

* Ramona lives in a cozy house on Klickitat Street with parents and a sister who love her. But her parents financial problems are a dark and realistic streak through the series.

* however the "bliss" of the Ramona series is "a safe and happy space, and a little girl running wild within it. It’s what makes the books such uncontested classics."

* Ramona is a "plain girl from the suburbs. Nothing remarkable happens to her" but that's what makes her so great.

* the books are a nice balance to the HELLSCAPE that is our world rn

* the Ramona books are a good reminder to author and mom that sometimes adult rules don't make sense to kids ("Why would her mother scold her for sticking out her tongue at the neighbor, when the neighbor had clearly asked if the cat had gotten it?")

* mostly "Ramona stands for empathy in the face of misunderstanding".

ONTD, are you a Ramona fan? What's your favorite in the series? I'm partial to Ramona Forever.

PART ONE

Thirteen years ago, artists like Daniel Powter, Cassie, and Paris Hilton were topping the charts. Many of the artists who created their major 2006 hits were never able to replicate the success. However, it's always fun to revist the past and remember what we were doing when we were listening to these songs back in the day. This list continues "part two" of our 2000's one hit wonder series. Let's take another look at the best one hit wonders of the year 2006!

BROOKE HOGAN - ABOUT US

Brooke Hogan's "About Us" was released as the first single from her debut album Undiscovered in June 2006. The song features Paul Wall and is the first single released by Scott Storch's record label. "About Us" peaked at no. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 in August 2006. The song also peaked at no. 21 on the Rhythmic Top 40 chart.

ASHLEY PARKER ANGEL - LET U GO

"Let U Go" is the first single from Ashley Parker Angel's debut solo album, Soundtrack to Your Life. In the U.S., the song debuted at no. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, the third highest debut of the year. The song peaked at no. 12 in its second week on the Hot 100, while reaching the top 10 of the Pop 100 companion chart at no. 9.

MARIO VAZQUEZ - GALLERY

Mario Vazquez's "Gallley" was written by Ne-Yo and Stargate. The song, one of the most added records at Rhythm radio stations across the United States on its first week out, was sent out to Top 40 radio in April 2006. Both English and Spanglish versions of "Gallery" were on radio and released digitally. The single managed to peak at no. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and managed to fare better on the Billboard Pop 100, peaking at no. 15. It debuted at no. 49 on the Australian ARIA Top 100 and reached the top 15 in France.

THE PACK - VANS

Vans, ha impact! The pack released "Vans" in the summer of 2006 and the song eventually peaked at no. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song made the rap group internet sensations for a short while until they faded into oblivion.

MATISYAHU - KING WITHOUT A CROWN

Matisyahu's "King Without A Crown" was originally from his 2004 debut studio album and then a shorter edited version was released as an official single in late 2005 in support of his second studio album. In 2006, the song hit no. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 and no. 7 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, making it Matisyahu's biggest hit of his career.

LETOYA - TORN

Letoya's torn was released in March 2006 and soon became a hit, having a high airplay, just missing out the top ten on the U.S. Hot 100 Airplay charts at no. 11. Since the Syncmageddon has started and there's even talks about a reunion. Let's revisit N'sync's best live performances.

10. 'Space Cowboy/Makes Me Ill'
N'sync HBO Concert Special

Space Cowboy is such a ridiculous song, but they made it so entertaining and fun during the performance of their HBO Concert Special. Raise your hands if you did the Space Cowboy dance routing on the tip of your toes! 🙋‍♂️

9. 'Just Got Paid'
Billboard Awards 2000

It's such a shame that this never was a single from 'No Strings Attached' cause it's so much fun. And so relatable now that i'm an adult.

8. 'I Want You Back'
N'SYNC LIVE: The Atlantis Concert

The atlantis concert to promote 'Celebrity' was so much fan, but you gotta appreciate them for still performing an oldie. 'I want you back' remains a bop to this day.

7. 'Baby One More Time/Tearin' Up My Heart' ft. Britney Spears
MTV VMA 1999

Iconic... as Britney and Nsync's first MTV performance. Also, people loved it back in the day because of the rumours that JT and Britney were dating. i feel like in school already!

6. 'Up Against The Wall'
N'SYNC LIVE: The Atlantis Concert

I WANT TO BE STUCK IN THOSE WALLS TOO!! That shit looks like so much fun, and this was not only one of the more upbeat performances, but one of the best tracks of 'Celebrity' as well.

5. 'A Puro Dolor/Yo te voy a Amar' ft. Son By Four
Latin Grammy Awards 2000

Son by Four had this one hit that was on the chart for like 3 million years, but if you were a latin kid, you could appreciate Nsync performing in spanish during the first Latin Grammy Awards. Also JC looks so damn handsome here.

4. 'Girlfriend/Bye Bye Bye'
MTV VMA 2013

The reunion!!! You can see ONTD post and reaction to it. People lost their shit cause we were not expecting this to happen. Like ever. Especially since JT became such a douche. It was short, but sweet. Like sex with your ex.

3. 'Pop' ft. Voldemort
MTV VMA 2001

Back in the day, people were calling this one of the best performances ever. 'Pop' was such a hit, but Michael had been absent from the stage probably because he was too busy molesting children, yet people still freaked out. Looking back, it's a very good performance, right until he appears.

2. 'Digital Get Down'
N'sync HBO Concert Special

Such a random hit, and it's so damn 90's. The dial up, the keyboards, them having no idea what digital meant. i fucking love it. Bonus points for 2:42 when it looks like JC is gonna sex. you. up.

1. 'This i Promise You/Bye Bye Bye/It's Gonna Be Me (Remix)'
MTV VMA 2000

'No Strings Attached' is a superior album by far. It just is. So having the three singles together was such a hit, and doing a remix of most of them was great too. Til this day, that version of 'It's Gonna Be Me' remains one of my faves.

Continuing the small tradition of re-recording hit songs, Tiffany releases a 2019 version of her 80's smash "I Think We're Alone Now", and honoring the original mv by visiting a mall but also giving us new locations. OP had this come up in their YT algorithm somehow.

Yall jamming to this version?

-Despite initially saying that she was done rebooting/reviving past shows she starred in, Shannen Doherty seemed to have had a change of heart when it comes to Beverly Hills 90210 and has decided to join the 6-part series.

-The "Revival" centers around Shannen, Jason, Jennie, Ian, Gabrielle, Brian and Tori reuniting and attempting to get a new reboot up and running. But getting it going may make for an even more delicious soap than the reboot itself. What will happen when first loves, old romances, friends and frenemies come back together, as this iconic cast – whom the whole world watched grow up together – attempts to continue from where they left off?

25 years of ‘His ‘n’ Hers’: A look back at Pulp’s glorious fourth album

-Pulp had been a relatively unnoticed band for 16 years by the time their 4th album came out in April 1994, just after the death of Kurt Cobain and the rise of Britpop
-Fun fact: At some point in those 16 years, Jarvis Cocker was performing in a wheelchair because he fell out of a window while trying to impress a lady
-Their album was ahead of it's time in terms of love, sex, romance, and recontextualizing masculinity - "it sounded like they actually cared about women"
-But even at the time, their sound seemed out of place, given Oasis and Blur's "pre-Brexit" anthems
-The source says it's a shame they broke up 8 years after that, and had a failed reunion in 2011
