“Preciosa” — (1998)

Descripción: A humble disabled girl named Preciosa Ruiz (Irán Castillo) dreams of becoming a circus star. She then falls in love with a doctor (Mauricio Islas) who is engaged to Preciosa's evil half-sister Valeria (Nailea Norvind), both of whom are unaware they're even half-sisters to begin with. The circus folk and Mamá Pachis (Leyenda Carmen Salinas) watch after her to protect Preciosa from the evil Ring Master, Sandor (Roberto Ballesteros).

“Mi Pequeña Traviesa” — (1997)

Descripción: Julia (Michelle Vieth) is a high school graduate who dumps her gangster boyfriend, Mercurio (Khotan Fernandez). Her father is then crippled in a hit-and-run, forcing her to become the family's main provider. She gets a job with a tailor but only after disguising herself as a boy - Julio - to obtain that job. Her new work takes her into the high society world of a young lawyer & aspiring director named Alberto (Héctor Soberón). Her childhood friend, Juan Felipe (Mauricio Islas) also falls in love with Julia. She tries to balance her new job and three suitors competing for her love. As if being torn between two lovers (and a very jealous Mercurio) wasn't enough, she then has to deal with the antics of Deborah (Arleth Terán) and Barbara (Mariana Seoane). These two ladies are obsessed with Alberto and Juan, respectively.

“La Mentira” — (1997)

Descripción: La Mentira (translated The Lie) tells the story of Demitrio Azunsolo (Guy Ecker). He goes searching for his half-brother, Ricardo Platas (Rodrigo Abed) in a remote Mexican village. He is crushed to learn that Ricardo has died. After questioning the villagers, Demitrio learns that Ricardo committed suicide after being scorned by an ex-lover. After investigating, Demitrio comes to the conclusion that this heartless woman lives in the villa of the wealthy businessman Teodoro Fernandez-Negrete (Eric del Castillo). Obsessed in his plan to avenge his brother’s death, Demitrio travels to Mexico City and meets Virginia (Karla Álvarez) and Veronica Fernandez-Negrete (Kate del Castillo), Teodoro’s beautiful nieces. Virginia is sweet and soft spoken while Veronica is vivacious and exuberant. Demitrio’s first impressions lead him to blame Veronica for his brother’s death. Unfortunately, his allegations are unfounded and both Demitrio and Veronica find out that Virginia’s innocence is all a façade to mask her diabolical schemes.

“María Isabel” — (1997)

Descripción: María Isabel is one of the few telenovelas that focuses on the life of an indigenous female protagonist and her community. María Isabel (Adela Noriega) is a young woman of indigenous descent, faced with the responsibility of raising Rosa Isela, the orphaned daughter of her best friend. She finds employment at the home of Ricardo Mendiola (Fernando Carrillo), a rich widower, and his young daughter, Gloria. Ricardo’s kindness and decency cause Isabel to fall in love with him, though she keeps it a secret for many years. Ricardo's young daughter, Gloria, influences María Isabel's young one, Rosa Isela, to feel ashamed of her “Indian” mother María Isabel. The ungrateful Rosa Isela then abandons Isabel to live with her wealthy grandfather. Shortly soon after, Ricardo realizes that he is falling in love with her and asks María Isabel to be his wife. The happiness is short lived however as many more obstacles come between them.

“Volver a Empezar” — (1994)

Descripción: Volver a Empezar (translated Start Again) tells the story of Renata “Reny” Jiménez (Yuri or Yuridia Valenzuela-Canseco), a Latin pop star who has adoring fans, is rich and has a family that loves her. Unfortunately Reny's sister, Sandra (Claudia Silva) and Reny's husband, Santiago (Rafael Sánchez Navarro), are not exactly fond of her. Santiago wants her money and Sandra wants her fame. Sandra arranges an accident that paralyzes Reny from the waist down, keeping her from performing, and with the help of Santiago, she disappears from the limelight, penniless. Reny however doesn't exactly love her husband anyways, and falls in love with her manager, Tony (Guillermo Garcia Cantú). Also in love with her are: Chayanne (as himself), a famous Puerto Rican pop star; Lalo (Fernando Ciangherotti) a poor, aspiring musician; and the doctor who is trying to cure her paralysis. Unfortunately, love cannot stop the twisted plan by Sandra and Santiago to get what they want from Reny, making it almost impossible for her to begin again.

“La Otra” — (2002)

Descripción: La Otra (translated La Usurpadora 2.0 The Other Woman) is about two women, Carlota and Cordelia (Yadhira Carrillo) who are physically identical, but on the inside are complete opposites. Carlota has grown up in a world dominated by her mother, Bernada (Jacqueline Andere), who emotionally abuses her and her older sister, Eugenia (Mercedes Molto). Cordelia has grown up in a little town surrounded by farms and ranches and is obsessed with wealth and power and will stop at nothing to get it. Eugenia gets pregnant out of wedlock, faced by embarrassment Bernada sends her to a small town, the town in which Cordelia resides. Carlota starts dating a doctor named Alvaro (Juan Soler) and falls in love. However, her mother Bernada won't allow it, because if any of her daughters get married, Bernada will have to give them each their inheritance which is everything Bernada has. When Eugenia dies shortly after giving birth, their mother Bernada uses this to her advantage and makes Alvaro believe it was Carlota who had passed away (he was not aware she had a sister) when he see's a closed casket at their home, thus breaking his heart. Alvaro believes Carlota has died and Carlota believes Alvaro has abandoned her. Years later as fate would have it, Carlota and Cordelia would meet and exchange places for Cordelia's daughter's sake. Carlota disguised as Cordelia would then fall in love with Alvaro all over again - unaware of the truth that he never left her. More lies and deceit would unfold in this story known as, La Otra.

“Rencor Apasionado” — (1998)

Descripción: Rencor Apasionado (translated Burning Resentment) tells the story of heiress Karina Rangel (Natalia Esperón) who suffers a nervous breakdown after the death of her parents and brother, and when she wakes up she finds herself in a psychiatric hospital, locked up by her step-sister, Mariana (Magda Karina), who wants to seize her money. Germán, a faithful employee of Karina, arrives at a plan to free her from the asylum and tormenting of her sister: marriage. With the help of two lawyers, a marriage of convenience is arranged between Karina and Mauricio Gallardo (Eduardo Santamarina), a young man whose family is on the verge of bankruptcy. She would secure her freedom and he would raise money to save his family's fortune. But Karina is only told that Mauricio is willing to marry her to help her, and after they give her his picture, and believing that he must have a heart of gold, she falls in love with him. Mauricio, on the other hand, is never informed that the rich heiress is locked up in an asylum. In fact, the only reason why he agreed to marry her is because his girlfriend, the beautiful and ambitious Mayte Monteverde (Aracely Arámbula) despised him when he discovered that his family no longer had money. Already furious, he is repulsed by the haggard appearance of Karina and has a grudge even after he says “I Do.” Mauricio goes on a trip, but a year later, his wife has become a beautiful woman, one who now has the same resentment for his rejection.

“Caminos Cruzados” — (1995)

Descripción: Caminos Cruzados (translated Crossroads) tells the story of Patricia (Mariana Levy), a sensitive and intelligent woman, begins to work in the firm of Ambrosio and César Augusto (father and son). Both fall in love with her, but Cesar Augusto (Ariel López Padilla) breaks off his relationship with his girlfriend, Valeria (Tania Helfgott) and marries her. Patricia and César Augusto will separate during a snowing accident. Years later however, they will meet again having completely different lives: she is a hard-working woman and he is married to another woman.

“Sin Ti” — (1997)

Descripción: Sin Ti (translated Without You) is about Sagrario Molina (Gabriela Rivero), a Biology teacher in a private school for young ladies and in her free time she attends a hostel for children with cancer. With her lives her widowed sister, Leonor, and her two nephews, Pablo and Lupita. At school she meets Luis David Luján, (René Strickler) a journalist who starts teaching literature at school. Love begins to emerge between Sagrario and Luis David, who are forced to marry to avoid a scandal that could ruin the career of Luis David, since Maria Elena Ysaguirre (Adamari López), a capricious and untamable student of very good economic position has become deeply obsessed with the teacher Luis. Maria Elena finally manages to get the couple to separate when Sagrario discovers Luis David and Maria Elena kissing, thus Sagrario and Luis David divorce. Shortly after, Sagrario begins to be courted by Guillermo Ysaguirre (Roberto Vander), the father of Maria Elena. Although she feels only a friendly appreciation for him, Sagrario decides to marry him, as Leonor suddenly dies and Sagrario has to take care of the two children. However, Sagrario finds herself in a very uncomfortable situation when Guillermo takes her home, since Maria Elena and Luis David are living together there. Aware that his true love is Sagrario, Luis David feels betrayed when he discovers that she is pregnant, without suspecting that the father of the daughter of Sagrario is himself.

ONTD Original: Lurlene McDaniel's 5 saddest books

$
0
0
Teens today have their Harry Potters, their Twilights, their Obama/Trudeau fanfic. Well back in my day we didn't have those types of books. There was an interesting pocket of fiction pre-teen and teen girls loved in the mid-to-late 90s, and most of these books were written by one author: LURLENE MCDANIEL.

If you aren't familiar, Lurlene wrote a ton of books about teen girls. These books had one detail in common: they were all about straight white people. Ok, two things in common: EVERYONE DIED. These books were ALL about people with cancer and people in horrible accidents and everyone died and was miserable. Hearts were broken, lives were ruined before they had a chance to start, and we, the readers, LOVED IT.

All that being said, I have a few personal standouts from the collection. I bring you the 5 saddest books Lurlene McDaniel has written.

5. Till Death Do Us Part

18 year old April has been suffering from headaches and fainting spells and enters the hospital for testing. There she meets the handsome Mark Gianni, a 21 year old with cystic fibrosis. While they both have feelings for each other, April has a jerk of a boyfriend who ruins everything. When April learns the seriousness of her condition(inoperable brain tumor, obviously)everything changes. Will April and Mark get together?(Yes, duh)Will one of them die?(Yes, duh)Who won the beach vacation?(idk)

4. Six Months to Live (Dawn Rochelle #1)

At just 13, Dawn's diagnosed with leukemia. While going through treatment she meets another girl fighting cancer, Sandy. They both go into remission and all seems to be alright...until Sandy gets sick again. Will Sandy live?(Nope)Will Dawn's cancer come back?(Not in this book)

3. She Died Too Young (One Last Wish #9)

The One Last Wish series followed a group of girls with life-threatening illnesses, and while they were all really depressing this one really packed a punch. Chelsea is a teenager who needs a heart transplant to live. While waiting for her transplant she meets a girl named Jillian who also needs a heart transplant. So they're waiting for a heart that only one of them can get, and the other one will likely die. There's also a subplot with Chelsea wanting to bone Jillian's hot twin brother Josh but come on Lurlene, we have more important things to worry about.

Will Chelsea get a heart transplant?(Yup)What about Jillian?(Nope, RIP)Will Chelsea and Josh get together?(Who cares he sucks)

2. Don't Die, My Love

Julie and Luke are high school sweethearts who are madly in love and planning their future together. A happy young couple without a care in the world? Not in McDaniel's world. Luke comes down with a flu that won't go away(Cancer, obviously). What does this mean for the young couple's future?(NOT GOOD THINGS)

1. The Angels Series

As I always do when I make lists I'm completely cheating by putting a series on here. So while our girl Lurlene wrote some depressing stories, they all seem to end with kind of a "good things can come out of horrible situations" message. Not the motherfuckin' Angels trilogy, no sir. This series teaches you that everyone you care about will die and love isn't real and existence is pain.

Leah goes into the hospital with what she suspects is a broken finger, but finds out she has leukemia. While in the hospital her roommate is a little Amish girl named Rebekah. Rebekah has an older brother named Ethan who is FIIIIINE and Leah is all over. Then an angel randomly shows up and cures them but no one really cares about that lbr.

That all sounds nice and wholesome, right? Except after that first book everything explodes.Rebekah dies when she gets run over by a fucking TRACTOR, which shakes up the entire family. Ethan has his Rumspringa and moves in with Leah and her family, and they start seriously dating. Then Leah's stepfather gets diagnosed with terminal cancer because there wasn't enough cancer in this series, and right after the diagnosis Ethan decides he'd rather be Amish and goes home. Leah's stepfather dies, Leah's all sad about Ethan, no one is happy ever again. THE END.

Fiona Apple's Tidal in 5 minutes

🍎 At 8 years old, Fiona became proficient at piano by playing lead sheets for classic jazz tunes. She would then buy the records to see if she came close to the recording. Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday were among her favorites.

🍎 She recorded a 3 song demo tape which included "Never Is A Promise". According to Fiona, she wrote the song when she was 16, after hearing the boy to whom she’d recently lost her virginity express interest in another girl. Other songs featured on the tape were “He Takes a Taxi” and “Not One of Those Times”, which remain unreleased.

🍎 One of the first copies she made of the tape found its way from her friend Anna, who was babysitting for a music publicist, to Andy Slater-who became Fiona’s manager and swiftly produced Tidal.

🍎 On July 23 1996, Tidal was released into the world when Fiona was just 18-years-old. She was pressed to come up with a title before the deadline, and chose Tidal as a play on how similar it sounded to “title.” It would also reflect the ebb-and-flow of her tumultuous journey. The sophisticated compositions, poetic lyrical content, and captivating delivery immediately drew comparisons to legends she once looked up to as a child.

🍎 "Shadowboxer" was the first single.

Others singles included "Sleep To Dream", "The First Taste", and "Never Is A Promise".

🍎 "Criminal" was written in 45 minutes to satisfy her label's demand for a hit. It became the biggest song of her career and won her a Grammy. The album went platinum within one year, and has sold more than 3 million to date.

🍎 It even influenced Kanye's Late Registration!

Make Me (Chart) no more! RIAA announced today that Britney's lead single off her ninth studio album Glory has been certified Platinum following its Gold certification last year.

The producer, Burns, also celebrated the occasion on his Instagram story today.

Here are a few little known facts about the song complied by yours truly...

1) It was co-written by Britney herself. The song has four writers in total.

2) A solo version of the song was also released.

3) The song marked Britney's return to the VMA stage for the first time after 9 years and her first TV performance in the UK for 8.

4) Not exactly little known but important to remember, the song's original video shot by legendary photographer David LaChapelle was scrapped and never officially released although LQ parts have leaked online.

5) When the song originally went to no1 on US iTunes, it did so by dethroning Justin Timberlake's Can't Stop the Feeling #popjustice.

Bops from 2003, baby. Ready for this post, grandmas and grandpas?

- - -

Relationships Suck.

Black Eyed Peas, Shut Up

Album: Elephunk
Birthday: November 4
Age rating: Relatable lyrics about your Facebook feed. The song is a bop, but it would be nothing without Fergie / female vocals.
Notes: Fergie's first song with the group before even officially becoming a member. Shut Up was an international success, despite not even reaching the Billboard Hot 100 in the United Flop of America

No Doubt, It's My Life

Album: No Doubt's first Greatest Hits album
Birthday: November 14
Age rating: A catchy song with a video featuring a woman killing men and not appropriating cultures? Ageless.
Notes: A great cover originally released in 1984 by Talk Talk.

Dido, White Flag

Album: Life for Rent
Birthday: September 1
Age rating: If you watch too many dramas from ten years ago, this overplayed ass song probably hasn't aged well for you. Either way, it's a really beautiful song about ONTD's abandonment issues.
Notes: Seriously though, it's great.

Self-reflection.

Christina Aguilera, Fighter

Album: Stripped
Birthday: March 13 - already fifteen!
Age rating: Super artistic video with an angry enthusiasm that took place years before Stefani was strutting the New York streets wearing Versace.
Notes: Maybe it was too ahead of its time for certain people.

The White Stripes, Seven Nation Army

Album: Elephant
Birthday: March - already fifteen!
Age rating: It still manages to pump up a crowd.
Notes: Jack White was saving the guitar's riff in case he was ever asked to do a James Bond theme lmao, thank goodness we got this instead!

Evanescence, Bring Me To Life

Album: Fallen
Birthday: April 22
Age rating: It was your guilty pleasure during your vampirefreaks.com days.
Notes: It was featured on Daredevil, which is the origin story about how Fatman decided to stop being blind as a bat to instead only dress like one.

Nelly Furtado, Powerless (Say What You Want)

Album: Folklore
Birthday: October 7
Age rating: This corny ass bop hasn't aged well, this is pure nostalgia. Because you all miss her, god damnit.
Notes: Canadia.

Sex.

Britney Spears, Breathe On Me

Album: In The Zone
Birthday: November 12
Age rating: Still completely fuckable.
Notes: Dirrty who? Slave 4 U what? Breathe On Me gave us one of Britney's most gloriously slutty performances. Just put your lips together and blow.

Beyoncé, Naughty Girl

Album: Dangerously in Love
Birthday: June 23
Age rating: Bey has had some of her most stunning moments in this video alone, but her sultry voice and the lusty vibe of the song is hot as hell, and that hasn't changed.
Notes: The music video and song as a single was released in 2004, almost a year after Dangerously in Love hit stores.

Busta Rhymes & Mariah Carey ft. Flipmode Squad, I Know What You Want

Album: It Ain't Safe No More
Birthday: March 17
Age rating: Mariah owns this bitch with her sexy tone. This song screams 2003 though tbh
Notes: and so does the video.

Matt LeBlanc Accidentally Ate Rachel's Meat Trifle on Friends After David Had Spit It Out

$

0

David was supposed to eat a bit of that awful trifle while filming but he spat it out, and Matt wasn't looking at that moment, so he took David's part of the trifle and put it on his plate and started eating it all, and then at the end of the season, they were all watching the blooper reel and Matt saw for the first time that he ate something David previously had in his mouth and was taken aback.

-Matt also talks about how he took his daughter to see Taylor Swift but Chris Rock was doing the same thing, and they both felt like the best fathers in the world, but then Taylor asked them to come on stage with her and they kinda didn't want to do it so they wouldn't embarrass themselves, but their daughters made them so they just kind of awkwardly walked down the runway that Taylor had trying to dance a bit.

The 25 (5) most re-watchable movies on Netflix

$
0
0

23. Inglorious Basterds
Almost every scene is a standout, such as the suspenseful opening sequence and the underground bar. Each is carefully constructed to build to its climax, and the movie as a whole makes a similar journey. Though long, the movie holds your attention and makes you want to see it through.

18. The Truman Show
Released in 1998, this film was ahead of its time in examining how reality TV (and later social media and internet surveillance) could invade an average person's life. For example, it touches on how the "showrunner" attempts to control Truman by creating situations that he knows--based on data and analytics--will effectively manipulate his emotions.

12. The Prestige
Narrative ambiguity that leaves things (timeline, character motives, and even final outcomes) open to interpretation makes this movie a fun one to see for a second or third time.

4. Mulan
Another 1998 classic, Mulan is one of the last traditionally animated feature films from Disney. It tells a fresh story with themes that were uncommon in children's entertainment, such as war, duty, and honor. It's also different from other Disney films of its era in that the main characters are less talkative than other heroes.

2. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Though it's part of a larger epic, the film tells a complete story on its own. It's well paced, develops its cast of compelling characters and sees them grow as people, features intense action sequences and battle scenes, and ends with dual sadness and hope.

The rest of the list + rationale is at the source.

Where are they now? Scandipop stars of the 90s

Dr Alban

Unlike for example Dr Dre or Dr Phil, Dr Alban is actually a doctor (of odontology, not partying). He practiced as a dentist before finding euro dance success. He seems to have been pretty sensible with the money he made in the 90s and is currently based in Stockholm with his family and working the nostalgia circuit.

https://instagram.com/p/Bhl-OgcHwm4

Rednex

Originators of a diabolical novelty hit, these fun loving Swedes found success appropriating white American culture, calling themselves bullshit like Ken Tacky and Mary Joe (real names Arne and Annika). Incredibly, Rednex are still going, but after going through a hilarious FOURTEEN lineup changes none of the original members remain. Mary Joe, the blonde singer people might remember, is today a life coach lecturing about how the power of thought and something called "rain drop treatment" helped cure her cancer.

https://instagram.com/p/BbSGwClAqma

Leila K

A formative figure in Swedish rap, the outspoken, unpredictable Moroccan-Swede has had a rough few decades. She's struggled with mental illness, drug abuse, had trouble with the law and been homeless for many years. Every once in a while she'll make a surprise appearance on the nostalgia circuit but her rare interviews tend to be about how someone (the police, the label, or even the journalist interviewing her) stole all her shit, so a comeback is probably not forthcoming. A documentary about her life is available on Youtube.

Whigfield

DIDIDADADA??? The former model and singer of a once inescapeable hit is currently recording as Sannie Carlson. She recently competed in the Danish Eurovision final with her song Boys On Girls and a very natural-looking new pair of lips . She still can't sing for shit, bless.

Aqua

Lene Nystrøm and Søren Rasted (the dude with the spiky blonde hair, not the baldo) were a real life couple and divorced after 16 years of marriage in 2017. Lene tried it with a solo career (remember that it's your duty duty, to shake that booty booty song? no?) but has found more success as an actress, starring in several major Norwegian productions (ie not that major).

https://instagram.com/p/BhSExM_HsXP

M2M

Marit (the one with the guitar) found solo singer-songwriter success with her stellar debut Under The Surface and its less interesting follow-ups, while Marion (the one with the hair) has had a truly weird career spanning Meat Loaf duets, any TV format that will have her and grossout comedy. They are no longer dating Hansons - Marit got married in 2016, and Marion got married in 2013 (and divorced in 2015).

https://instagram.com/p/BgGaIxMFB3V

https://instagram.com/p/BhkChNAlbKf

Ace of Base

Incredibly successful in their day, Ace of Base had a wild ride in the 90s. They sold millions of albums, had their hit The Sign excruciatingly covered by the ugly middle kid in Full House, Ulf's past as a teenage nazi made headlines and one of the members was even attacked with a knife by a German stan. After the group ended Jenny (the brunette) became a Christian singer, Malin (the blonde) decided she wanted out of the spotlight for good and the guys are involved in some start-ups and writing but seems like just rich people hobbies tbh. All of them have lowkey family lives.

https://instagram.com/p/BLeIazSBR-S

Army of Lovers

Liberté, égalité, sexualité! The eurotrashiest pop act of them all has gone on to have a lot of self-inflicted drama, mainly. Bard and Barda, miffed that the amply asseted La Camilla got all the attention, fired her from the band. She went on to have an affair with the married king of Sweden. Their reunion album was suitably called Big Battle of the Egos. (OP story: my cousin told me these guys were gay when I was like 9 and I was like hwat. how do u know)

https://instagram.com/p/BLWSOYJDpaP

Deepika

While she found pop fame only in her native Norway, I'm going to include Deepika because of her impressive postscript. She made waves with her fusion of trip hop and Pakistani music, but her sexy, confident image made her a target in the conservative Norwegian-Pakistani community to the degree where she had to move to England to feel safe. Today she goes by Deeyah Khan and is an Emmy-award winning documentary director, making films about 3rd gen kids.

https://instagram.com/p/BhpY71khWSB

Robyn Carlsson

The spunky Swede's 90s sound brought us the early perfection of the Max Martin beat. She went on to revolutionise the indie pop game in the noughties before becoming a very occasional feature/collaboration artist. According to a november 2017 instagram post she is "in the studiooooo" but we have yet to hear actual proof of this statement.

ONTD Original: Kids Sports Movies & Their Adult Counterparts

As somebody who doesn't play or watch sports, I have certainly seen a lot of movies based on them. As a child of the 90s, they were a staple. Baseball, basketball, hockey, football it didn't matter. I watched them all.

Then I grew up.

D2: the Mighty Ducks & Miracle

After watching Miracle for the first time a couple weeks ago it became very clear that D2: The Might Ducks was basically the based on the true story of the 1980s Team USA Olympic hockey team before we actually got the based on the true story of the 1980s Team USA Olympic hockey team.

the herbies
the introductions
Russia is Iceland
Adam Banks is OC

And I am completely okay with that

The Big Green & Shaolin Soccer

Stay with me: ancient arts passed down through generations used to give the underdogs a chance to win against the best.

and this is basically a kid version of Stephen Chow

The Sandlot & Field of Dreams

It's not about winning or losing. It's just about the game
This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again.

Little Giants & The Replacements

Talk about the wrong stuff.

The Bad News Bears & A League of Their Own

This one is more for the coaches than anything. Coaches just in it for the money and not the game then their heart grows three sizes and feelings.

Plus the teams lose

5 (3) female anime characters that impacted childhood

  • The author of the piece discusses how the anime she grew up with (including Sailor Moon, Dragonball, several CLAMP series) helped her embrace her femininity.

Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon
Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon
She's a flawed young woman that can be bratty and whiny. She's also a savior of the world when push comes to shove. Sailor Moon shows compassion to others who may not really deserve it, and she sees the best in people.

Anthy Himemiya
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Anthy, the Rose Bride, is a deconstruction of princess and evil witch tropes. She is a complex example of a "passive, yet powerful" character. She was also a fleshed out, dark-skinned woman character, which was then and is still not common in anime.

Bulma
Dragonball
She is the unequivocal hero of the Dragonball franchise. Despite having a good heart, Bulma still looks out for herself. She's both a woman and the smartest person in the room most if not all the time. Bulma is comfortable with herself and is self-confident. As Bulma grows up, she remains true to herself while still remaining a caring person about everyone around her.

*NSYNC Roundup Post

1. Lance Bass Exec-Producing Lou Pearlman Documentary for YouTube Red

Former *NSYNC member Lance Bass is on board as an executive producer for Youtube Red's upcoming documentary on Lou Pearlman.

The movie will cover Pearlman's remarkable success, to his prison death at 62 in 2016 while serving a 25-year sentence for money laundering, conspiracy and other felony charges tied to one of the longest-running Ponzi schemes in U.S. history. No news on whether they'll cover any of the sexual assault rumours, but I doubt they will.

The film will feature interviews with various members of Pearlman's boybands, including *NSYNC's JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Bass, Backstreet Boys' AJ McLean, O-Town's Ashley Parker Angel, Aaron Carter and Take 5, as well as the mothers of Bass and fellow *NSYNC star Justin Timberlake (Lynn Bomar Harless), and the victims of Pearlman's Ponzi schemes and scams.

2. Lance Bass and Husband are Going to Become Actual Daddies

Lance Bass revealed to ET that him and his husband, Michael Turchin, started the surrogacy process last week.

He said, "we've met with surrogates, we’re looking at eggs, we now have the person representing us, and contracts are being made, and it’s such a process that we had no idea existed. But it’s also fascinating too. It’s already amazing.”

4. In Defense of JC Chasez, *NSYNC's Underappreciated Boy Band Frontman (also known as, The Superior *NSYNC Member and Rightful Breakout Star of the Group Finally Getting the Recognition He Deserves... 15 Years Too Late 💔)

Another news source jumping in with a JC Chasez thinkpiece! Pretty much covers the same ground as the previous article here but I'm not complaining.

"Celebrity was designed for Timberlake to shine, as he was on the brink of solo stardom -- but JC still one-upped him by utilizing urban-inspired beats that felt more authentic. His bandmate teamed up with big names like Wade Robson and The Neptunes for hit singles “Pop,” “Girlfriend” and “Gone,” while JC opted for pushing the envelope with blippy PlayStation sound effects on deeper cuts like “The Game Is Over,” laced his affectionate vocals on the sticky-sweet “Two Of Us,” got adventurous on the funkified “Up Against the Wall,” inspired by two-step U.K. garage, and channeled his inner Brian McKnight with his emotional belts on “Selfish” (the R&B great produced the ballad)."

You already know what a great singer he is, so here's a vid of him doing a Steve Irwin (bless) impression on a beach instead.
