The show never brought the two together in any official capacity.
They did end up briefly kissing in a season 5 episode, with Carter immediately shutting down their potential romance because she was his student.

▪ Wyle was against them as a couple and wrote a letter to Wells to change the script.
▪ In the original script they had sex in one of the exam rooms, and somebody walked in on them.
▪ Martin was sad that Lucy and Carter were never an official couple.
▪ Carter went on to have a relationship with Abby 😴😤😠.

Famous female characters described in their screenplays

$

Source searched through countless old screenplays to find the descriptions for 50 notable female characters and I have included several below. The source has tons more and many are exactly as you imagine.

A description by Quentin Tarantino of the first woman we see in his film Death Proof played by Sydney Tamiia Poitier:

A tall (maybe 6ft) Amazonian Mulatto goddess walks down her hallway, dressed in a baby tee, and panties that her big ass (a good thing) spill out of, and her long legs grow out of. Her big bare feet slap on the hard wood floor. She moves to the cool rockabilly beat as she paces like a tiger putting on her clothes. Outside her apartment she hears a “Honk Honk.” She sticks her long mane of silky black curly hair, her giraffish neck and her broad shoulders, out of the window and yells to a car below. This sexy chick is Austin, Texas, local celebrity JUNGLE JULIA LUCAI, the most popular disc jockey of the coolest rock radio station in a music town.

James Cameron describing the role he created for Zoe Saldana to play in Avatar:

Draped on the limb like a leopard, is a striking NA’VI GIRL. She watches, only her eyes moving. She is lithe as a cat, with a long neck, muscular shoulders, and nubile breasts. And she is devastatingly beautiful — for a girl with a tail. In human age she would be 18. Her name is NEYTIRI (nay-Tee-ree).

Lisbeth Salander from the screenplay for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo:

Lisbeth Salander walks in: A small, pale, anorexic-looking waif in her early 20’s. Short black-dyed hair - pierced eyelid - tattoo of a wasp on her neck; probably several more under her black leather jacket - black t-shirt, black jeans, black Caterpillar boots … This isn’t punk fashion. This is someone saying, Stay the fuck away from me.

Mo’Nique’s Oscar-winning role in Precious was just as vivid on the page:

MARY — INCREDIBLY LARGE, OILY SKIN, UNKEMPT HAIR, AND WEARING A GRIMY HOUSE DRESS sits on the couch with her back turned to Precious. This mass of woman looks as if she is one with the furniture — if not the entire apartment.

And this introduction of Gina Gershon’s character in the Wachowskis’ sexy thriller Bound minces no words:

Leaning against the back of the elevator is Corky, a very butch-looking woman with short hair and a black leather jacket. She is a lesbian and wants people to know it.

I highly recommend checking out the source because there are many listed. Its an interesting read.

Mark 'The Cobrasnake' Hunter on his career transition from photographer to shop owner

In the mid-to-late 2000s, The Cobrasnake was a website run by Mark Hunter. Endless photos of drunken teens/20-somethings at clubs and parties made website visitors familiar with the antics of Cory Kennedy, Steve Aoki, and Mickey Avalon. Now the website has shut down, and he runs The Cobra Shop, a 90s/2000s vintage store in LA, as well as the Cobra Fitness Club - a jogging-through-Runyon Canyon-with-Insta-models venture. Some highlights from his interview:

-Everyone said his nightlife-photo blog was Instagram before Instagram, and he wishes he capitalized on that financially
-Got the idea for a shop because he wanted to sell clothes similar to ones of what people in the photos were wearing
-Before The Cobrasnake, his original website was called Polaroid Scene (until Polaroid sent him a cease and desist letter)
-Points out that no one has a phone in their hands back then, and their self-image was less guarded
-Has an archive photo book coming out
-Sort of gave up on photography once smartphones/social media took over
-Lots of positive discussion on the use of Polaroid cameras (well, look at the source)
-No mention of his sleaziness whatsoever

ONTD Original: Millennial Kid Show Theme Songs That Were Actual Bops

$

Inspired by the good sis badtz_m, with ha Fine Fresh Fierce™ ONTD original: Disney Channel Songs That Were Highkey Bops, I've decided to take us on all on another trip through time and remind us how fucking old we are, while bopping our asses in the process. Let's be real, TV raised a lot of us. The moment your favorite show's theme song started, you know your 9-year-old self jumped off the couch and sashayed for your LIFE. So here's 10 examples, in no particular order, of 90s/2000s kid show theme songs that go the fuck awf.

You know I can't wait to see my name in lights
No one's gonna stop me/You'll see
I will go faaaar

Running for just two seasons on Nickelodeon from 2001-2002, Taina was a show ahead of its time, about a group of talented young musicians at an arts school in Manhattan, centering on Latina teenager Taina Morales, who dreamed of becoming a superstar. This bop is an excellent confidence booster no matter what your age or if your name is actually Taina or not.

We are riders on a mission
Action kids in play position!
Rocket Power!

Rocket Power premiered on Nickelodeon in 1999 when I was 8 years old, around the time I started to discover what "cool" was. Centering on a group of California kids who were magically talented at every extreme sport imaginable, Rocket Power's epic theme song was my first introduction to "punk" music, and you'd best believe my ass was headbanging every time it came on.

From my head to my toes
It's all real, and you know
Fresh and cool, that's just what I do
T-R-U-E - J-A-C-K-S-O-N, VP

With lyrics lowkey shading fake bitches, Keke Palmer's intro to ha first starring TV role was actually a lowkey certified in a half motherfucking sleeper hit BOP. True Jackson VP premiered when I was in high school so I was a little too old for Nickelodeon, but I watched it anyway because come on. The premise is Keke Palmer becomes the vice president of a fashion magazine because she's just THAT stylish. That sounds like a true gay delight, if you ask me.

Til further notice (til further notice)
I'm in between (I'm in between)
From where I'm standing (from where I'm standing)
My grass is green

The first show on my list that is actually FANTASTIC, As Told By Ginger was an oddly realistic portrayal of the life of a middle school and eventually high school girl and her friends, dealing with a host of real-life issues such as depression, bullying, divorce, and heartbreak. The theme song is sweet, innocent, dreamy, and perfectly captures what that's like. And it was sung by Macy Gray!

Arnooooooooold
Move it football head!

My favorite show of all time, I've seen every episode at least 10 times and I could watch it any day of the week any second. This is one of the sweetest, deepest, most mature, and most timeless kids' shows of all time, but this list is about theme songs so let me not get too sappy about my fav. Hey Arnold! had one cool, jazzy soundtrack, known right off the bat with its extremely catchy intro. Despite not having any real lyrics, EVERYONE knows this melody, and once the hand claps start, it's fucking LIT.

Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me
When you wanna page me, it's okay
Whenever you need me, baby
Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me

I think there would be actual RIOTS if I didn't include this on my list. Once those beeps start, it's over. My booty is BUMPING. Sung by early 2000s pop star Christina Milian, of "where are they now?" fame, this might very well be the catchiest song on my list. How many of y'all have or have had those beeps as your ringtone so you could feel like a kickass spy girl? Don't lie.

(the glitter text site I used couldn't make apostrophes and it took me FOREVER to realize this and I was getting so fucking frustrated trying to make this logo, anyway tho...)

Hey now what ya say now
Bout to break down
Yeah come and ride with Rae now

How many of y'alls favorite kids shows had a RAP BREAKDOWN for a bridge? I know I felt like fucking Twista spitting that 5-line verse when I was a kid. Ignoring Orlando Brown's future messiness, this song had flavor, and was the perfect intro to a whacky ass show about a weirdo psychic girl with attitude. It also utilized the vocal talents of all three of its main stars, which was like fun and cute, right?

They'll make you sing
Make you wanna scream
It's a family thing, family
Proud Proud Family (Proud Family)

Sung by motherfucking SOLANGE KNOWLES (featuring DESTINY'S CHILD, can you imagine, Beyonce featured???), both The Proud Family and its R&B theme song come from a time when kids' entertainment seemingly strove to celebrate diversity, even in animation. For my family and me, this show was a pretty big fucking deal, because it wasn't too often that you saw a cartoon family that reflected your own. Also there were characters named Lacienega and Dijonay, like this was gold.

The weekend comes, I’m down with that
Grab your ball, grab your bat
Head to the beach, grab some rays
Better hurry up, just got two days

A lesser known Disney Channel show, The Weekenders is probs most famous nowadays for people asking "Remember The Weekenders?" and the response being "No". But this show was actually awesome, following a group of pre-teens on their weekend shenanigans. It was fun, cool, and unique, plus the theme song was motherfucking SKA MUSIC. I still sing "I'm ready for the weekennnnd" just about every Friday.

She will never turn her back on a friend,
She is always there to defend,
She is the one on whom we can depend,
She is the one named Sailor...

An 80s workout BOP, this song still inspires me and others today, bringing out the strong and fierce Sailor Scout that lives inside me. It makes you wanna grab your girls and gays, kick ASS and look fabulous while doing it. When I was a burgeoning gay boy in the late 90s, my step-dad walked in on me twirling to this, a true queer nightmare.

ONTD Original: This Is Millennium Pop

$
0
0

*Ari voice* Let's go back to the way it was at the turn of the millennium ('98-'01) where music was filled with bouncy dance beats, computerized harpsichord samples, and sleek synth guitars made by Darkchild, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and others. And in the music videos of these songs were ambitious CGI visuals depicting what the future would look like with digital themes and futuristic cityscapes. Don't forget about the large gradient sunglasses.

Like how things from the past come back in trend after 20 years, an appreciation of this era is growing, seen with this popular blog dedicated to Y2K aesthetics and upcoming artists who grew up in that time being inspired by it. Here's 21 hits of this era that will make you want to put on your silver popstar space pants and a bandana around your head. S/O to alienjiive for the glitter text inspiration.

J.Lo was coming off from the success of Selena and launched a somewhat successful musical career with this debut #1 single. The video has to be the epitome of Y2K from the color palette and accompanying aesthetics. Wavy artist Drake referenced this song in 2017's "Teenage Fever."

BadgalWiwi Ford has been accredited as one of the first 'bad girls' of pop of this time with her very sexual image in "I Wanna Be Bad" compared to blonde peers Britney and Jessica. We'll always remember this Bohemian's one bop wonder.

While the video does not seem like anything fancy now, it's one of the most expensive videos ever made. I don't really consider this sound similar to the other songs of this post, but I can't leave out BSB who literally named their classic album Millennium.

Short-lived abandoned Diddy project Dream bumped through with the very girly hit "He Loves U Not." They reformed recently and toured with O-Town, 98 Degrees, and Ryan Cabrerra in the throwback MY2K Tour.

"Anyone can make you sweat, but I can keep you wet."
Who else can pull off singing such provocative lyrics in the middle of an amusement park other than New Kids on the Block member Jordan Knight.

So this list will mention the 1800's 3/4 count waltz harpsichord trend that was in Y2K pop music for some reason... And is it present on here? Yes.

Successica showed off her best hunching choreo in "A Little Bit" with lil sis and punk-rock queen Ashlee as a background dancer. Snatch with the rod choreo at the end.

Mya also did some rod choreo in the middle of a desert for "Case of the Ex (Watcha Finna Dew?)". Tinashe 1.0 is now an independent artist who does experimental r&b and stripper burlesque performance art in clubs.

One of NSYNC's more iconic videos, "It's Gonna Be Me" holds it's legacy being annually meme'd at the end of April when it's 'gonna be May', and was directly referenced to in Fall Out Boy's "Irresistible" where Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone made appearances in. In their Celebrity album, they had the 3/4 count harpsichord moment with "The Two of Us."

U.K r&b Legend and Spice Girls hater Craig David was in the underground garage scene with Artful Dodger, but broke out with his solo hit "Fill Me In" which is a modern day classic. The song got popularized again in 2016 after he did a mashup with a J*stin B*eber song on a BBC Radio session.

You probably recognize Blaque from the iconic Bring It On movie. This group was founded by Lisa Lopez, and you can find a cameo of her in the music video.

Former black artist and butch queen Pink broke out with "There You Go" and "Most Girls" during her r&b debut, which was more of L.A Reid's doing. She kind of looks back at this era with contempt but she did serve!

Another short-lived girl group 702 had the hit "Where My Girls At" written by Missy Elliott, and I believe they have plans to reform. Also check out "You Don't Know."

DC has a bunch of hits with this era's sound, and it was hard to choose only one. Apparently in the video for the classique "Say My Name" with DC lineup 3.0, the thing where they do different poses on beat throughout the video was kind of a spontaneous idea on the day of the shoot. Craig David nailed a nice cover of this song a couple of years ago.

WAGW originally had a more soulful album version, but went through a dancey single remix and launched to number 1 as the first Billboard Hot 100 number 1 of this century (2000). 3/4 harpsichord moment? No, but there was an 1800's theme going on in the bridge.

"TKO me fall in love
Don't be scared to break my heart
Not gonna fall apart" YAS, LYRICS OF THE CENTURY

During a promotional mall performance, YT footage of Willa Ford can be found singing this song which I'm assuming was originally meant for her. Legendtoria's stint as a solo artist was not that impressive aside from a few songs, but it's cute she tried! She battles "yin" and "yang" sides of herself in a Faerie Cloud Racers-esque scenario in the video and tbh she slayed the dancing sequences.

Kandi of Xscape and The Real Housewives of Atlanta has a lot of bangers in her songwriting catalog including DC hits "Bills Bills Bills,""Bug A Boo," and TLC's "No Scrubs" which was recently given credit by *d Sh*eran for "Shape of You" (get that royalty checkque sis). "Don't Think I'm Not" is kind of a funny song about how her man may be going out and having his fun but she is also, and that there should not be some kind of double standard when women cheat compared to when men cheat... I think?

The Spice Girls had to evolve after Geri left because of her quarter life crisis and ultimately changed the dynamic of the group. With a more 'mature' r&b sound, "Holler" was the second single off of their last studio album Forever. People forget this era of Spice Girls history but it was still moderate success in the U.K. They fed us Avatar teas with each member representing an element, which they did again for the "Love Lead the Way" video. Forever has THE millennium pop jams.

Impactnet was showing us her happy and vibrant side in All For You with a colorful video to match for the first single "Doesn't Really Matter," also known for being featured in Nutty Professor II. J*seph Kh*n decided to shoot the video in portrait orientation I'm guessing.

This might have been a more 'pop' sound for Aaliyah at the time and apparently was considered a cross-over hit. The song did peak at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Aaliyah's only song ever to do so.

Whitney gave us mathematics and exposed her lover for cheating in "It's Not Right but It's Okay," which is an empowerment anthem for when muthaf*ckas try it with you. My Love is Your Love spawned several hits overall in the late 90's.

"No Scrubs" could have been on this list, but it's too iconic of a song from the best selling American girl group TLC. "Silly Ho" is a certified bop off the iconic album definitive of Y2K, Fanmail, and maybe an unconventional choice to sing as a lullaby to babies, as Kelly Clarkson admitted doing.

So where's the millennium sound today? Here are a few tunes that bring the old into the new.

IMAGINE being a fan of pop music and not knowing London Queen Rina Sawayama with her breakout mini album 'Rina'. "Take Me As I Am" has nods to Max Martin's 90's production via producer Clarence Clarity, and talks about facing society due to her race. She has her harpsichord moment in her single "Cyber Stockholm Syndrome."

Kehlani wears her influences on her sleeve (quite literally, re: her Lauryn Hill tattoo), with SweetSexySavage being a 2017 twist to TLC's CrazySexyCool. People often compared the album track "Too Much" to Aaliyah's "More Than A Woman."

IMAGINE being a fan of pop music and not know about the Y2K legend LIZ Y2K (it's in the name) with the neo-r&b "Horoscope" which I MAY or may NOT have mentioned here before. LIZ's dream of a millennium revival was #aheadofitstime since her 2013 debut and 2014 mixtape "Just Like You." We been knew she was bringing colorful r&b pop back but the world has a thing called "cognitive dissonance" to underrated music!

Happy Friday! Fav songs from this era?

Sports, of course, are inherently tied to results. But movies too often limit the scope of their storytelling by leaning on the bankable dramatics that finish a game, a season or a championship run.

Which is why it’s so refreshing that the only real competitive game that occurs in The Sandlot comes at its halfway point. The group has been challenged by a pack of bike-riding brats dressed in Little League uniforms, but they offer little intimidation. Benny and his crew handle them with ease. Everybody smacks the ball, comeuppance is served without argument, and this self-regulated exhibition turns into a wipeout. In any other movie, this would be the final act, the ninth inning serving justice to the underdogs. Instead, it’s a laugh and a footnote.

This day in 1990, Twin Peaks premiered - 7 (3) ways it changed TV forever

$

28 years ago, ABC premiered Twin Peaks, a show that begged the question, Who killed Laura Palmer? Looking back on it's impact, here are 3 ways it changed TV forever:

1. Twin Peaks changed serialized television - Shows with cliffhangers usually wrapped them up in an episode or two. A plot did not span the course of a season.

3. After Twin Peaks, it became okay for TV to be weird - The dreams in The Sopranos and the puzzles in Lost wouldn't have been possible without Twin Peaks.

6. Twin Peaks was the first series to generate so many fan theories - Even though social media didn't exist in 1990, this didn't stop families and coworkers from theorizing what could happen next.

The Office's iconic 'Dinner Party' episode turns 10 today!

$
0
0

On April 10th, 2008, The Office aired what was indisputably its best episode yet (and arguably the best comedy episode of the decade). In celebration of these 22 unforgettable minutes of fremdschämen, the cast and crew had the following (and then some) to say.

Writing the episode
ft. Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg

  • Stupnitsky thought of it as Who's Afraid of Jan Levinson-Gould? andGreg Daniels (executive producer/co-creator) titled the episode Virginia Woolf in his notes.
  • Eisenberg says awkwardness lives in the pauses. The people at the dinner had to let space between lines hang, making the rhythms of this episode slightly different.
  • Different versions of Michael Scott: childish, incompetent, or (sometimes) at his best. The aim was to get Michael at "his most pathetic" in this episode, as well as blow up Jan/Michael's relationship in a spectacular fashion.
  • About "peeling the onion" - revealing new details about their relationship and living situation over the course of the episode, so by the end we hope they break up.

The Unraveling of Jan Levinson-Gould
ft. John Krasinski (Jim Halpert), Melora Hardin (Jan)

  • Krasinski says Hardin excelled at the severe straight-man character and that Michael/Jan's relationship had elements of BDSM.
  • Steve Carrell "found her very funny" and they made a strong comedy due, despite Hardin's lack of comedy/improv background.
  • Hardin viewed Jan as humorless, becoming more hardened and "masculine" as she climbed the ranks in a male-dominated industry.
  • The dinner party is Jan's "delusional fantasy of normalcy" while Michael is trying to leverage having a girlfriend and home to finally befriend Pam and Jim outside of work.

Pre-Production
ft. Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin), Ed Helms (Andy Bernard), Beth Grant (Melvina, Dwight’s date and former babysitter)

  • The network's only note was "This script is really, really dark."
  • Only one revision from the initial script: Jan originally ran over the neighbor's dog on purpose.
  • The table read started off slow with few laughs but grew exponentially as the episode went on. Steve Carrell struggled to get through his lines.
  • Grant says the episode "almost read like a [Harold] Pinter play because it was so literary." She and Krasinski both say almost none of it was improvised.

The Writers' Strike
ft. Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly), Paul Feig (director),

  • Production shut down right before shooting "The Dinner Party."
  • Fischer says that although strike rules allowed filming scripts that were already in-hand, Carrell was also a member of the Writers Guild and refused to cross the picket line. Cast and crew were supportive of this.
  • The show lost 6-7 episodes that year.
  • Fieg asked to direct the episode, but it had been promised to someone else. Schedules changed due to the strike and Fieg swooped in.

Setting the Stage at Michael's Condo

  • Fieg also directly “Office Olympics,” the first episode where Michael's condo appears (he buys it from a real estate agent played by his real-life wife, Nancy).
  • It's in Woodland Hills, where they shot a lot of Freaks and Geeks.
  • Used decor as a joke (late at night TV products, tiny flatscreen).
  • Relied on actors to convey some things, like how bad the candle room smelled.

Hunter's Song

  • The Office writers wrote the lyrics & shopped to several musicians.
  • Used New Pornographers guitarist Todd Fancey, who recorded it quickly at home, because his version made them laugh the most.
  • Hardin danced off-beat on purpose and didn't rehearse ahead of time, to catch Krasinkski off-guard.
  • You can listen to a longer version of the song here: https://soundcloud.com/user-887608634

The Shoot

  • The cast was excited to film on location ("Like kids going to Disneyland," says Fischer) because they rarely left the main set.
  • Helms says it was a bonding experience; no trailers to return to between takes.
  • Hardin says it was uncomfortable, kind of like the dinner party itself, because of close quarters (4 couples + crew + equipment).
  • Tented the place to make it look like night time, which added to the claustrophobia.
  • Director of photography came from Survivor and brought reality-show perspective.
  • Daniels directed cameramen not on where/what to shoot, but things like “You know that Jan is jealous of Pam, so look for evidence of that, and make sure to check in on Dwight’s weird date, I think she is doing something with her fork."
  • Carrell came up with "snip-snap, snip-snap, snip-snap!" to lighten up the vasectomy exchange.
  • Kinsey was very pregnant by the time they returned from the strike hiatus, had to hide it.

Actors had trouble getting through their scenes

  • Grant (Dwight's babysitter/date) says she had to suck on a beet to keep from breaking during the dinner scene.
  • Fischer highlights "the scene where Jan catches [Pam] eating, "where they're giving us a tour of the house, and [Michael] explains that he sleeps on the little chaise longue at the end of the bed" (which is based on a real situation Fieg had with his boss) and "when he's showing us his flatscreen television."
  • Krasinksi also points out the TV scene.
  • Helms says Oscar Nunez was unbreakable while he, Kinsey, and Krasinski broke all the time. Helms looked at Carrell's ear instead of at his face to keep from laughing.
  • Hardin improvised the devil horns ("Yeah, I'm the Devil!") and almost made Carrell break.

The Aftermath

  • It was originally a "supersized" (44-minute) episode, but they trimmed it to 21. There is a 29-minute version out there, too.
  • The cast still laughs about it, sending each other pics of tiny mounted TVs.
  • It was Fieg's favorite directing project outside of Freaks and Geek. He won a Director's Guild award for the episode.

#FlashbackFriday: 5 Recent Indie Songs Interpolating Hits

$

I can't help but being taken aback when these indie songs randomly use a good chunk of music from familiar hits. Some of these songs range from "contains elements of" to using multiple verses, but still including different lyrics.

Do you think you can guess the songs by listening to them?

5. Right On Time by Jojo (2015)

"I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis

Part used from the original:
Say you love, love me forever
Never stop, I'm there for whatever
Near and far, you're always everywhere and everything

Notes: Yes I know this is still a 'major label' release but Jojo has been rebirthed into indie pop and r&b status tbh. wendy_williams_hat.gif

4. Back For More by Glassio (2018)

"Heaven" by Bryan Adams

Part used from the original:
But that's over now

You keep me comin' back for more

Notes: This band used most of the melody and changed the words and it took me a minute as to why it was so familiar. Lettuce not forget the iconic trance DJ Sammy version.

3. Where U Are by Rina Sawayama (2017)

"I Wanna Be Where You Are" by The Jackson 5

Part used from the original:
Can it be I stayed away too long

Did I leave your mind when I was gone

It's not my thing trying to get back

But this time let me tell you where I'm at

Notes: A kind of obvious one.

2. Down For You by Kehlani & BJ The Chicago Kid (2015)

"Just Friends" by Musiq Soulchild

Part used from the original:
Maybe we can oh

Go and see a movie girl

Or maybe we can hang out girl

Whatever you want to do

Just let me know

It's up to you

Notes: Kehlani was indie for this mixtape, and yes she might be too obvious of an example as she does this in her songs quite often.

1. All That We Had Is Lost by Postiljonen (2014)

"How Will I Know" by Whitney Houston

Part used from the original:
There's a boy I know, he's the one I dream of

Looks into my eyes, takes me to the clouds above, mmm-hmm

Oh, I lose control, can't seem to get enough

When I wake from dreaming, tell me is it really love

--

Oh, wake me, I'm shaking, wish I had you near me now, uh-huh

Said there's no mistaking, what I feel is really love

Notes: Wig when I recognized this in this hazy ambient song.

Happy Friday! What indie songs give you the throwback feels?

Do You Remember: Forgotten Male Pop Artists of 2000s

So you got a collab with the biggest rappers. So you worked with the biggest hitmakers. *Shania voice* That don't impress me much.

But your little career run faded a little too soon in pop standards, and you're just no good anymore. We're familiar with pop girls who were very of their time, and we can't leave the fellas out either! Whether it's because male pop is inherently dry & beige and only can hold up for so long (counting down for Shawn and *d's time), these men range from one-hit-wonders to those who had a few hits to their name.

Jesse McCartney

You may also know: "Beautiful #Sole", "Because You Live"

Where are they now: Still with an active music career and dropped an album in 2014 which no one really knew about. He recently released a new single called "Better With You," but he still has a loyal #stan base!

Jay Sean

You may also know: "Down"

Where are they now: He left his label in 2014 due to difference in 'artistic direction' (code for you ain't making them money), so I'm assuming he's independent now. Since his late '00s run he's been featured on some DJ tracks.

Matt Pokora

You may also know: N/A

Where are they now: French Justin Timberlake released a few albums since and is taking notes of being a retired artist a la Xtina and is a judge on The Voice Kids France and The Voice: la plus belle voix.

Ryan Cabrera

You may also know: "True"

Where are they now: Ex-love of Ashlee Simpson, Lisa Origliasso from The Veronicas, and Audrina from The Hills works in a music collective called Beyond the Sky. I Googled him and think you can still catch him doing gigs and very small venues.

Sean Kingston

You may also know: "Take You There", "Fire Burnin'"

Where are they now: One of the more successful guy here, he's sporadically released singles and is working on a new album. He also thrives on features, but I don't know if we need his voice on the radio.

Kevin Rudolf

You may also know: N/A

Where are they now: Like Jay Sean, his contract with his label was up and now works as an independent artiist.

Colby O' Donis

You may also know: "Beautiful" (Akon), "Just Dance" (Lady Gaga)

Where are they now: I peeped his IG and he's been writing songs but still terribly under the radar... I don't know if he's booking gigs or anything.

ONTD why do you think MOC in pop have been disproportionately flopped in their careers?

After receiving her Vanguard award at the GLAAD ceremony, Britney stopped by Access Hollywood for a quick chat. There she was presented with an old pic of her and Ricky Martin, one which she had totally forgot existed. It was then Brit provided us with a pearl of wisdom as she quipped "The secret to happiness? No memory! Right there (...) live in the moment baby". Brit also talked about the 20th anniversary of her iconic first single Baby One More Time and going on tour this summer before she decided to wrap things up cause you know, it's Britney bitch.
