Year: mid 90s til early 00s

The 90s was a real diverse era in music although R&B was the winning genre for almost the entire decade before bubblegum pop came along.

The fact that it was the end of the century also made everyone future-obessed, from whispers of the Y2K bug that would plunge the entire world in darkness (basically people thought that all the dates on electronics would get reset at 0:00 1/1/2000 and it would fuck up etc).

For whatever reason everyone thought that by year 2000 we would somehow go from heavy ass mobile phones, dialup internet to flying cars and leisurely space travel.

This list will look at the music videos during this era that played into the scifi theme of the era.

Album: Millineum
Year: 1999

Super 90s. Each member had their own scene doing their own thing. The 90s was also an era of people spending some big cashola on MVs something you don't see often these days

Album: Oops!...I Did It Again
Year: 2000

In this video, Britney appropriates Martian culture. The video's iconic status comes from Britney's red latx bodysuit which was considered super sexual back then. She was also around 18-20 when this was released

Album: HIStory: Past, Present, Future Book 1
Year: 1995
The song is about tabloid press and obession with Jackson (Michael). It is still the most expensive music video costing around $10 million USD (adjusted with inflation)

Album: Spiceworld
Year: 1997
Lyrically the song is pretty much nonsense. It is heavily influenced by latin rhythms which was also big in the late 90s. The music video was quite a big deal back then because the surfboard riding scenes with greenscreens (i honestly have no idea why it was a big deal)

Album: Fanmail
Year: 1999
Feminist bop paired with an amazing music video tbh! The music video beat Backstreet Boys and Nsync in the category for 'Best Group Video' at MTV's 1999 Video Music Awards. The 'Main Mix' version of the song was used for the video instead of the flop album video.
