Do you feel old yet? Final Fantasy VIII was released in Japan on February 11, 1999. While the game is controversial with fans, it received critical acclaim. It grossed more than $50 million in the first 13 weeks of release, making it the fastest selling Final Fantasy game of all time. More than 6 million copies were sold by the end of 1999.
Since then, the opening cutscene (below) was ranked second on Game Informer's list of "Top 10 Video Game Openings", and was rated the best by IGN. Readers of the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu voted it the 22nd best video game of all time in 2006.
