Episode description: For our season finale we went back to the source and spoke to Mark @thecobrasnake Hunter about his process, the naughties, the disappearing internet, and the final word on our most burning question: when will The Party return??
This OP listened and made some notes:
-The era of “looking like shit” made people feel like they can be spotted online too; everything is too posed these days
-His first website, Polaroid Scene, ended up being shared on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs message board – they then emailed him saying they loved the photos and asked him to come shoot them (he had to pay to get into that show)
-Says there's a romanticization of 2006-2011 because “life is boring now because of COVID” – no one is “spitting in each other’s mouths”
-Before he blew up, he was working at a Chinese restaurant making $6 an hour
-He has a coffee table book coming out in the spring
-Says Uffie has 2 kids now
-Also says there is nothing he should be cancelled for (ha!)
-Some scoop: Myspace Tom tried to make it as a rocker and had him shoot some photos; now Tom is a “tech bro”
-He became a “fitness guru” a decade ago when he got sick of going out all the time, but his book has given him a new love for what he did
-He has everything archived and is considering re-releasing it in 2022
-He is also dreaming up a documentary of the 2000s and will frame himself as washed up
