Let's talk about that little pink dress from 'My Date with the President's Daughter'

• Millennials of a certain age will remember when My Date with the President's Daughter was a Disney Channel staple, airing mostly on the weekends every few months. It's probably been awhile since any of us saw it, but we can all remember Will Friedle and The President's Daughter ditching her Secret Service detail and shopping for some new clothes. Friedle picked out a deep brown leather jacket and a burnt orange dress shirt (very late 90s), while President's Daughter picked out a pink dress that looked like it came straight from Barbie's closet.

• The costume designer for the film, Delphine White, found the dress in a Toronto boutique, and though dupes of it have popped up on Etsy over the years, the original dress ended up in the possession of an LA photographer Elizabeth Elder, who bought it for $15 on Depop.

• Actress Elisabeth Harnois (President's Daughter aka Hallie), says that even though she came around to loving the dress she had to be convinced to wear it by White. She was only 18 when the movie was shot and says, “the industry was really fucked up for a lot of girls. It was still popular to be very skinny. I’m so happy that that’s changing, but wearing that dress made me more body-conscious, and I was already insecure.” Harnois goes on to say that the dress made her more adventurous in her own personal style.

• White says she chose a mini-dress for this moment because it was so different from what Hallie wore when performing the role of the President's Daughter, and it was an attempt to 'reclaim' pink by having the character wear the bright color when she was at her most rebellious.

ontd, what's the one movie dress you would love to have in your closet
