BOO! Did you get scared? If not, why not rewatch some of the terrifying children's movies that we were shown as kids?

Some of these films were meant to be scary, while others were just unintentionally disturbing. Either way, they caused some serious nightmares and trauma.

Watership Down
1978

A cartoon about cute bunnies. What could go wrong? Everything. Everything could go wrong, that's what. FYI, it's available for free on YouTube, if you feel like being re-traumatized.

The Brave Little Toaster
1987

A cute little toaster goes on an adventure with his friends. Harmless right? WRONG. *Stefon voice:* This movie has everything-- a scary clown, near-drowning, disfigurement, lightning, and torture! (This is also on YouTube.)

Coraline

2009

Coraline is a stop-motion film that is fairly recent. It features a terrifying alternate world in which adults rip out children's eyes and replace them with buttons. (It's available for free on YouTube, btw)

The Halloween Tree
1993

Sci-fi author Ray Bradbury had some demented visions, including The Halloween Tree. Spoiler alert: children have to sacrifice part of their actual lives in this damn cartoon.

Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island
1998

Scooby-Doo is remembered as a campy cartoon from the 70s in which there were no real monsters. But that changed with this direct-to-video movie. The zombies are real, and they were terrifying.

The Last Unicorn
1982

Unicorns are supposed to be sweet, innocent creatures, but this movie isn't sweet and innocent. An evil king is capturing unicorns by using a giant bull made of fire. There is also a talking skeleton and a harpy with actual boobs.

Howl's Moving Castle
2004

Howl's Moving Castle is a classic anime that might be a liiiitle too scary for kids. A wizard transforms into a giant bird monster, a fiery war involves violence from flying shadow creatures... it's pretty intense. (It's on YouTube, too.)
